Faith-Based Initiatives

Foodlink is committed to increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of our network of anti-hunger organizations. As the regional food bank, Foodlink serves 500 human service agencies, the majority of which are faith-based. By relying on Foodlink to meet food-related needs, these organizations and ministries can focus their efforts and resources on providing more holistic services to meet their clients’ varied needs. With increased capacity, our partners will have the opportunity to address the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical needs that caused the person to be hungry in the first place.

As lead agency of the Faith and Communities Together (FACT) partnership, Foodlink received a federal grant from the Compassion Capital Fund in 2007. The $500,000 grant, one of only ten in the nation, was used to build the capacity of faith-based and community-based organizations addressing human service needs in our community. Working with the Community University Partnership Project, Foodlink mobilized the resources of the Rochester area to provide organizational assessment and diagnosis, training, technical assistance, and grant sub-awards to assist small faith- and community-based organizations involved in human service delivery to increase their effectiveness and enhance their ability to provide social services.
