GreenWorks formally known as Rochester Landscape Technicians started in 1991 the Landscape Technicians Certificate Training Program was the original program of the organization Since the first class in 1991, hundreds of students have graduated. Over the 20 years, the average employment rate for our students upon graduation is 85%. The students find employment with landscape companies, garden centers and public parks, to name a few. Our graduates have gone on to start their own businesses or manage companies for other owners.
Goals of GreenWorks:

Build participants' self esteem, and encourage patterns of responsible behavior. |

Provide area employers with a source of dependable, work-ready employees. |

Enhance Greater Rochester through community beautification projects conducted by program participants. |
Many programs are assisted by local parks departments, extension services, and professional associations within the green industry. Funding is provided by foundations, corporations, government grants, religious organizations, individuals, and through earned revenue from our social enterprise - Rochester GreenWorks.
Landscape/Horticulture Certificate Program
This was the first program offered by GreenWorks (formerly know as Rochester Landscape Technicians Promgram (RLTP)). Designed as an entry-level introduction to all aspects of the green industry, this program begins in early January and ends the 1st of April each year. Once completed, students receive their Landscape Technician Certificate.
The program includes twelve weeks (270 hours) of classroom instruction which is lead by volunteers from the industry.There are many field trips and hands on demonstrations, students also spend a week working at Gardenscape in March.The students also attend a 30 hour training for NYS Pesticide Applicator’s Licensing Exam Topics include: how to identify, plant and maintain trees, shrubs, flowers and turf, landscape design, pest management, equipment use and maintenance. .
- Classes meet Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the GreenWorks Offices, 425 Ormond Street.
- Class size is limited to 30 students. Early application is encouraged as we often have a waiting list.
- The Landscape Certificate Program also offers intensive job readiness and life skills training, resume services, job referrals and career counseling for those in need of such services.Results:
